Jim Croce sang about saving time in a bottle so that he could "spend it with you". Steve Miller sang about time "slippin, slippin, slippin into the future" and the things he'd like to do. Miller wanted to "fly like an eagle" to "feed the babies, shoe the children, and house the people.." all worthy causes in my opinion. These and numerous other songs about time express our awareness of time, even if you are "sitting on the dock of the bay, wastin time" as Otis Redding sang about. Incidentally Mr. Redding recorded this hit song in Dec 7, 1967, three days before his death in a plane crash outside Madison, Wisconsin according to what I've read. Indeed our time is so uncertain here.
This brings up a question I am always asking myself and I'm sure you do it as well. With a limited amount of time here on earth, what is the best use of it? I've stuggled with the question for years and the answer seemed to change daily with a very hectic schedule. Only recently did I learn or admit I was not smart enough to plan out an efficient and effective schedule for my daily routine on my own. As a Christian I decided to turn the issue over to God.
